Personal Resource Counselor
As an effort to help women address difficult issues surrounding their unplanned pregnancy, CareNet has on staff a professional counselor that helps pregnant women deal with family issues, relationships, finances, careers and other barriers that block her from deciding to carry the pregnancy.
The Personal Resource Counselor:
- Provides more in depth counseling beyond pregnancy assistance.
- Helps women resolve relational, legal, financial, and educational or job related problems in their lives.
- Helps women set life goals and then implement them.
- Helps procure necessary resources and support for women who have made a choice to carry their baby, but are still considered an abortion risk.
There is no charge for this service.
Testimonials:
Andrea and her boyfriend worked with the Personal Resource Counselor on partner relationship issues. Constant fighting, financial stress, and a new unplanned pregnancy were significantly contributing to the negative state of their relationship. On of the major underlying problems was a lack of communication. In counseling sessions, they worked on general communication skills to address concerns and challenges in their relationship. The couple was given weekly "homework" assignments to build and strengthen their relationship as they prepared to parent their child together.
Gianna came to CareNet's Naperville office several months pregnant. She was overwhelmed with the life changes that had occurred due to her unplanned pregnancy. She had concerns about social support, family issues, issues with the father of the baby, and concerns about how to navigate her future as a single mom. With her Personal Resource Counselor, she processed both the emotional challenges she was struggling with as well as making plans for her future including education and career and at the same time how to be the best mom for her little boy.
